R&M Motors was established in 1967 by Richard & Karen Moriarty in downtown Berlin, WI. In the early years, Richard did mechanical work on Milk Trucks and Dump Trucks for local companies. He was the sole employee, with Karen doing the billing and accounting from home while raising two young boys, Jon & Pat.
Growing up, Richard spent summers on his Grandpa’s Farm west of Berlin, and it was there that he developed a love for farming and equipment. In addition to doing repair work, Richard also bought and sold used Farm Equipment. In the 1980s, the business had grown out of the brick building in town, and a new building was built on Highway 49, where R&M Motors remains today. It was during this time that the business evolved into selling new farm equipment, with Deutz Fahr being the first new product line. Over time, the new product lines grew to include such names as Mustang, Hesston, Massey Ferguson, Honda, Yamaha, Simplicity, Great Plains, and many others. Sons, Jon & Pat, grew up working in the business, experiencing all jobs at one time or another and all at once, from the Power Wash Slab, Parts Counter, Delivery Truck, and Sales Floor to the Shop Floor. Even though R&M Motors was now selling, servicing, and providing parts for all the new equipment they sold, used equipment remained a big part of the R&M Motors business. As manufacturers began to increase pressure on dealers in the 1990s to grow into multiple locations with more sales, that pressure continued into the 2000s as manufacturers began to pressure dealers for more and more market share. That constant pressure led the family to decide in 2011 to terminate all contracts with manufacturers. It was at this time that Jon & Pat turned the Business Focus completely to selling Pre-Owned Equipment.
Since the beginning, R&M Motors has always strived to provide high-quality, pre-owned equipment, and that shows as it’s always quite easy to tell just by looking at the machine in person or seeing it in a picture! The R&M Motors’ name has become well known and respected for providing high quality, and often times, difficult to duplicate, Premier Pre-Owned Equipment.
It is at this time that Jon & Pat have decided to retire and put to market their Inventory, as well as their Semi-Tractors & Trailers, Collector Tractors, and Pickup Trucks. It’s been a Fun & Exciting Business that provided a Good Living while it created many great memories and friendships! Join the Moriarty Family on April 29th as they will sell everything to the Highest Bidder!
